Fitness is a life long journey and injuries can be frustrating and discouraging. Don't make the mistake of abandoning fitness while injured.
Here is what you can do:
1) Stay Committed: Keep going to the gym, keep training, even if you have to modify. Progress happens with consistency. Stay commitment to your fitness journey.
2) Set Goals: This will help you stay focused and consistent. Goals can include frequency of workouts/week or a fitness goal that is achievable during injury. For example, if you have a knee injury, set a pull up goal.
3) Develop a Skill or Strength: Fitness athletes are some of the most diverse athletes. Identify skills you can work on that are not impacted by injury. For example, if you have an ankle injury, work on handstand pushups. Shoulder injury, work on running.
4) Modify: Keep working out an modify based on your injury. For example, for a knee injury/immobilization, do med ball slams in sitting instead of standing. Most of the time, there is alot that you CAN do. Focus on that.
5) Mindset: Mindset training is essential for athletes. Prioritize healing and recovery vs pushing through injury and prolonging injury. Know that healing will take time. Be commited to the healing process. Don’t settle for short term fast gains that prolong injury or go back to fast and get re-injured.
6) Rehab: Recovery from injury is a process. Do the work to recover well and prevent re-injury. Plan to gradually progress back to normal activity. Address weakness, imbalance, and immobility that resulted from injury.
7) Get Better Faster: Work with health professionals to get back to what you love faster!Treatments to consider:
Blood flow restriction
Dry needling
Manual therapy
Softwave
PRP injections
Rehab exercises
Taping & more
8) Work The Uninjured Side: For unilateral injuries, working the uninjured side is beneficial to activate the portion of your brain associated with that area of your body. You will also get overflow into the injured side because of how the nervous system is wired.
